Perth is famous for hosting the most spectacular fireworks display in Australia on Australia Day. With a huge variety of fireworks shells, colourful explosions and music synchronisation, the City of Perth Australia Day Skyworks is the one event not to be missed this year! This year also happens to be the 30th Anniversary of the Skyworks, so the fireworks program will be extra special!

Have you ever wanted to capture the spectacular beauty of fireworks? Or do you want to improve your fireworks photography? Ever wondered how to get great results from the camera gear you have? Looking for tips and tricks on how to capture different kinds of fireworks?

You can learn how to with our special Fireworks Photography Workshop, on 24 & 26 January 2014.

We can teach you all the techniques and tricks you need to know to capture great fireworks images that you’ll be proud to show off. We have developed a unique system to teach you how to best capture fireworks with your camera in the comfort of our studio, so that you will be ready to capture great shots once the Skyworks starts! We’ll even save you a great spot on the South Perth foreshore for the day!

The Fireworks Photography Workshop is comprised of two separate sessions of teaching:

  • Session 1 – 24 Jan. (2hrs in studio) and;
  • Session 2 – 26 Jan. (optional guidance – 1hr at Australia Day Skyworks)

Session 1 will be held at our city studio on 24 January 2014 in the evening. Participants will be taught the theory and technical aspects of light painting and fireworks photography. We will discuss how the images featured above and many more were captured, and we will also have a practical simulation of light painting and fireworks for participants to shoot using the proven techniques.

The simulation will continue with the rest of Session 1 with the instructors guiding the participants with the various techniques until they can produce satisfactory results and are all ready for the Skyworks on the weekend. Session 1 is 2hrs in duration with a short drink and snacks break in the middle.

Session 2 will be on Australia Day (26 January 2014) and is an additional option that students can purchase. We will reserve an ideal spot on the South Perth foreshore perfect to capture the fireworks show. There will only be spots for 8 students for Session 2. We do all the hard work in securing a great location for fireworks, you just have to show up! Book early to secure your spot!

We meet 1 hour prior to the fireworks to set up and run through techniques and tips. The instructor will also be guiding and assisting participants during the fireworks show. Session 2 is 1 hr in duration with drinks and snacks provided.

You can choose to sign up for either Session 1 or Session 2* or both. We understand people have their preferences as to where they want to shoot the Australia Day Skyworks and also how they spend their Australia Day with family and friends. Joining us for Session 2 means you won’t have to camp out for the best spot if you want to shoot from the South Perth foreshore.

Our workshops are taught by top professional photographers** who are also highly experienced instructors. (please see our instructor profile)

* Please note that you can only sign up for Session 2 if you have extensive long exposure photography experience or have completed Session 1.
